Every Halloween, old SEO myths rise from the grave to haunt marketing teams all over again.

In this transcript of our latest video, The SEO Graveyard: Myths That Should’ve Stayed Dead, Matt takes a spooky stroll through the myths that refuse to die – from the “backlinks don’t matter” fallacy to the belief that small brands can’t outrank big ones.

Matt:
It’s Halloween, and the SEO graveyard is stirring again.

Old myths crawl out of their coffins, dust themselves off, and start haunting marketing teams all over again.

So, let’s dig up a few.

Myth number one:
“Backlinks don’t matter anymore.”

That one’s been dead for a decade — or at least, it should be.

Bad, low-quality backlinks — sure, those are gone.
But relevant, earned links from digital PR?
They’re still one of the strongest ranking signals out there.

Myth number two:
“Just publish more content.”

Quantity alone doesn’t raise the dead.
If that worked, every blog post would be Frankenstein’s monster — just stitch a few AI-written paragraphs together and zap it to life.

But without strategy, internal links, and authority, all you’re doing is adding more low-quality zombie pages to your site.

Myth number three:
“You can’t outrank big brands.”

That one’s pure Hollywood horror.

Because integrated SEO and PR turn niche focus into authority — and authority into growth.
Google doesn’t always reward the biggest monster in the room; it rewards the most relevant one.

Now, before we close the coffin lid, let’s take a quick walk through the SEO graveyard.

“SEO is dead.”
Been dying since 2010 — still very much alive.

“Keyword density still matters.”
That one belongs in the spellbook of 2006.

“Domain Rating is everything.”
Scary number, but it’s not what decides your fate.

“AI will do SEO for you.”
Great assistant — terrible exorcist.

“You can just set and forget SEO.”
That’s how the nightmares begin — slipping rankings, vanishing traffic, and cold sweats at 3 a.m.

So this Halloween, don’t let these myths crawl out of the grave and steal your rankings.
Bury them once and for all — and focus on strategies that actually stay alive all year round.
